The main news outputs are in fashion crisis as the artificial intelligence chatbots driven by Google and other large technology giants press on the website traffic.
Google has rolled out a “AI” feature feature on its search engine demonstrating traditional “blue links” on other sites in favor of automatic compilations. Last month, the search giant revolved from the “he mode” which is expected to make the problem even worse with answers to the chatbot-style search questions and some direct links.
Nicholas Thompson, CEO of News Outlet the Atlantic, Tod Employee earlier this year that they have to assume that Google traffic will fall towards zero over time, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.
“Google is moving from being a search engine on a response engine,” Thompson told the newspaper. “We need to develop new strategies.”
Reduction traffic is damaging income for newsrooms with cash and holidays. When the Business Insider overthrew 21% of its staff in a newspaper throughout the news room last month, its senior barbarian host chief said the measure aimed to help “endure extreme traffic points outside our control”.
The Business Insider Traffic Website was plunged by a 55% uncle from April 2022 to April 2025, according to data from analytics, similarly quoted by the magazine.
Huffpost has also lost more than half of his traffic for the same period, the data showed, while the Washington Post – another newsroom collected from job cuts – has lost nearly half of his search audience.
The participation of the summaries created by him instead of the links “is a serious threat to journalism that should not be underestimated,” said the Washington Post CEO, William Lewis.
Google did not immediately return a comment request.
Despite traffic losses, Google has claimed that it is still being trafficked on news sites through search.
Critics, such as news news alliance-a trade group representing hundreds of news media, including Post-Has, warned that he and other features of the completed PMs will have devastating consequences for the industry.
They claim that Google and other giants to he used news content to train their chatbots without credit or proper compensation – and then used those products evenly to erod the traffic.
Danielle Coffey, CEO and the President of the News Media Alliance exploded the participation of Googles of Mode last month as “theft”.
“The links were the last quality of redemption of research that gives good publishers traffic and income,” Coffey said. “Now Google simply gets the contents by force and uses it without return, the definition of theft. The remedies in mind should address this to prevent the continuation of internet rule by a company.”
He’s vacation comes as Google faces intense pressure from federations on its business model – including losses in a pair of antitrust cases brought by DOJ that can force a company division.
US District Judge Amit Mehta has decided to decide until August on how to disrupt Google’s illegal predominance during internet searching after labeled the company as “monopolist” in an initial decision last year. The lawyers of the DOJ want to take into account the future impact of him when creating legal remedies.
Elsewhere, Google recently lost a special Doj case in which it was set to have two illegal monopolies on digital advertising technology.
In that case, US district judge Leonie Brinkema touched on the media impact, revealing that “Google’s exclusionary behavior nominally damaged Google publisher customers, the competitive process and, ultimately, customers of open internet information.”
The phase of digital advertising technology test will begin in September.
