In the Bronx, a white house for sale gives some strong man to a man who later left for the White House.
This property, located in 5040 ave. In Riverdale, it ranked $ 6 million and includes more than 17,000 square meters in a lush 1.2 hectares overlooking the Hudson River, the post has learned.
Moreover, it is the site where President John F. Kennedy lived during high school years in the 1920s as he attended the prestigious Riverdale country school, and where his younger brother Robert F. Kennedy returned famously for a visit to the Senate in 1964.
But its graceful dimensions are just part of the story.
JFK House once knew it has long disappeared – destroyed decades – but something new now stands on Earth, and is looking for a new owner.
“There are some families and some repetitions of houses before this,” said Dustin Crouse, who is co-listed property with Erin Boisson Douglas Elliman. “The current family has owned it since 1991 and developed it over two generations. It has been a work of vision – and of time.”
The original house that once stood here.
JFK lives at Riverdale address from fifth to seventh grades.
Although that house is no longer standing, there are some fragments of its presence.
“There are structural elements at the base – type of a stone room – dating back to previous versions of the property,” Crouse said.
The new residence, finished but not fully adapted, offers approximately 17,620 square meters inner and 4500 square meters of terraces.
A dramatic atrium with triple height, inspired by the Guggenheim Museum, forms the architectural heart of the house. Her Rotunda style curves and Skyl’s opening speak of a modern vision.
There are nine bedrooms, seven bathrooms and two dust rooms.
The main settlement is complemented by a 2,000 -square -foot guest with three extra bedrooms and its two -cars garage.
A garage of 10 cars sits under the main house, which also includes an immersed living room, an official dining room, a media room, a library and a large kitchen with a terrace adjacent to the morning.
“There are also 7,500 square meters extra in the basement that can develop further that they have touched – it’s the raw space now,” Crouse said.
Instead of ending the interior in their tastes, the sellers decided to leave the main design decisions to the other owner. The property is being submitted with a temporary occupation certificate and will require finishing touch such as floors, railing and tiles.
“You don’t need to rip anything or make a tear,” Crouse said. “It’S’S just a design project. It is personalized for a new buyer to enter to create an extraordinary generative line.”
The reason for the sale is simply: the family is shrinking.
“Their lives have changed. They no longer need something great,” Crouse added.
The settlement is adjacent to Vala Hill Gardens, a historic public garden and a cultural center that has all been hosted by Mark Twain to Theodore Roosevelt.
Nearby are the Yacht Riverdale club, and the Van Cortland Park’s golf course, stalls and hiking-amnities trails that speak of a long ideal of Riverdale as the closest New York approximation of the country’s life.
“The beauty of this place is that you can live like in the village, but still be 30 minutes from Midtown,” Crouse said.
Riverdale was once one of the most fashionable attractions for wealthy New Yorkers.
“At the end of the last century, this was a well -known destination for families,” Crouse said. “That’s coming back.”
And Riverdale is not the only location where JFK’s childhood tracks are paved by modern luxury.
Bronxville’s 6 hectares of the Kennedy-Ku JFK Live family from 1929 to 1941 was destroyed in the 1950s. Later divided into three houses, including a colonial-style home in the crown district sold in 2024 for $ 4.7 million.
Still, for the Buffs History Kennedy, 5040 Independence holds a unique distinction: it is where the new Jack Kennedy is likely to throw balls into the backyard, made his way to school and began to go out while the boy would one day become the 35th president of the United States.
In 1964, Robert F. Kennedy returned to the campaign trail for his New York Senate offer.
He remembered the school nearby, but confessed that he did not remember much home, the New York Times reported at the time. However, the visit became a symbolic response to the allegations that RFK was a political stranger – a “carpet” – in New York.
Kennedy told students at Mount St. Vincent College after visiting the house that New York had formed who had lived there for the first 20 years of his life.
A bronze plaque later installed by the New York Community Trust marks the presidential importance of the site.
Crouse sees strong potential for renewed interest in the Riverdale wealth market.
“What I have noticed, especially in the last two years since the pandemia is that I have only seen a return of many people who have lived in Manhattan and Connecticut or other nearby places, such as Westchester, returning to the river,” Crouse said.
The latest sales seem to keep it.
“Last year, a $ 7 million sale was closed for a 1.5 hectare property nearby,” Crouse said. “This is a large number for riverdale.”
What separates this house, he added, is the full rate of supply – inside and outside.
“There’s nothing else like her,” Crouse said.
