Two leading US Internet security organizations are asking US businesses to make a possible wave of Internet attacks by Iran as the country is engaged in escalating hostilities with Israel.
Information-Information Technology Sharing and Analysis Center (IT-ISAC) and Food and Agricultural Information Separation and Analysis Center (Food and AG-ISAC) issued a joint statement last week warning that the conflict could cause an increase in cyber activity from the target actors aimed at US companies.
“Historically, Iranian state-sponsored actors, pro-Iran Hackivist groups and financially motivated cyber criminals have launched attacks against US organizations during periods of conflict,” the statement said.
Both ISAcs call on businesses throughout the sectors – especially those in critical infrastructure – to “take immediate steps to proactively assess their readiness on the Internet, increase their protection and prepare for a range of cyber activity, some of which can be divisive”.
Iranian -related threat actors are known for their aggressive and adaptive tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPS) -an internet security term describing how hackers or cyber groups plan and carry out attacks in the digital world.
Both online security groups emphasized the importance of raising internal awareness, increasing monitoring for dubious behavior and training of employees to report phishing emails and malicious links.
“Readiness is essential for resistance,” the organizations write.
“Now is the time for companies to get acquainted with the Iranian-related threat actors and their TTPs, evaluate their online security behavior, strengthen their protection, begin monitoring raised for suspicious activity, and reminding employees to report suspicious emails and links.”
Isacs also highlighted the risk of collateral damage, pointing out that attacks directly aiming at Israeli objectives can inadvertently influence US companies through global interconnection of digital networks.
“Even attacks that do not directly target the US can have indirect effects and cause interruptions to companies in the US,” the state warned.
“It is possible that internet attacks that aim for Israel itself can cause collateral damage to US companies, even if US companies themselves are not targeted.”
Both organizations said they are continuing to monitor the situation and provide real -time intelligence for member companies. They noted that their member base is actively using tools such as opposing attack books and secure cooperation channels to stand before developing threats.
“Food and Ag-Isac and IT-Isac will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely intelligence updates as new threats arise,” the statement said.
Alert comes while US critical infrastructure sectors remain at high alarm among increasing global tensions. Both ISAc encourage companies that do not currently participate in their information sharing networks to voluntarily join in order to strengthen online industry protection.
Food and Ag-Isac, launched in 2023, provides intelligence threat and sources of incidents for the food and agriculture sector.
IT-ISAC, founded in 2000, supports companies throughout the technology space with the curated analysis of cyber threat and cooperative security tools.
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has pledged that the country will “not give up”, issuing a warning that any US military involvement will result in “irreparable consequences”.
His statement follows Remarlows from President Trump, who posted on social media that the SH.BA recognizes the location of Iran’s high leadership, but has chosen not to act – stating before, “unconditional surrender!”
A White House official told The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday that Trump spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday while military tensions escalated to the region.
In recent days, the US has reinforced its military presence near Iran, with a third destroyer of the Navy entering the Eastern Mediterranean and a second group of aircraft strikers on the road to the Arabian Sea.
Although the Pentagon has described placements as a protective nature, positioning can serve for double purposes – whether in possible offensive joint with Israel or increase pressure on Iran to renounce or negotiate.
The fight between Israel and Iran has intensified, with the reports of the growing victims. A human rights group said the number of deaths in Iran has climbed over 450, while Israeli authorities reported 24 deaths coming from Iranian missile attacks.
The post has requested comment from the Iranian government.
