WhatsApp, which supports over 2.8 billion monthly users, is still moving its previous decision not to advertise administrative, much about the anger of its client’s colossal base.
This choice follows other controversial recent updates, including a button that has considered users difficult and widespread ads on other platforms that promise viewers that the messaging app does not collect user data.
Back in 2023, rumors about the app that implement personalized ads circulated the Internet, but WhatsApp Head, will Cathcart, will close speculation with a summary tweet.
Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, has clarified the role of advertising in the new application strategy.
In a post on the June 16 blog, Meta explained that the new policy in the update tab aims to help the channel of administrators, organizations and businesses build and grow “by introducing channel subscriptions, promoting channels and advertising in the status bar.
WhatsApp was previously evaluated by its basis for security, reliability and cost-effectiveness-is free for users throughout, but advertising implementation varies more about service than many Whatsars can accomplish.
Meta revealed that if users have not previously connected WhatsApp with other meta accounts, it will use specific data data and “limited information such as your country or city, the language, the channels you are following and how you interact with the ads you see” to provide more ads
“We will never see or share your phone number for advertisers,” reassured Meta its users. “Your messages, calls and personal groups you are in which you will not be used to determine the ads you can see.”
End -ending is still guaranteed, and Meta also said that if users only use the application to call or order their contacts, there will be no “no change in [the] Experience at all, ”though for many people, this promise is simply not enough.
A damaged Whatsapper got to Reddit to share the news, and a long ago, complaints rolled into the thread in motion.
“I’m very ill of this,” one user said, referring to the increase in advertising numbers in the internet spaces, while another stated: “WhatsApp is officially deleted.”
“Ah, that’s why [Meta’s] By bombarding the world with advertising that swear they never dive into your messages and that your conversations are 100% private, proooomis“Said a prone observer.
“Just wait for premium without ads without ads for a few $ 5 a month,” a cynical commentator predicted.
However, others in the thread did not see a problem with the new feature: “No one uses [the Updates tab] Anyway ”
WhatsApp users across the globe will see ads roll over the next few months, but many are already predicting a change in experience, causing a migration to other secure competitive services such as telegram and signal.
“That would be enough for me to look for another messaging app,” said one redditor.
