In Brooklyn’s Ditmas Park, a house has taken on the central scene, stealing attention again, again – and again.
A Victorian -lined Victorian, at 500 E. 18th St. It’s not just a showstopper-is a frequent stage of the scene, which appears in more television loans and film than some of the actors who have shot there.
Now listed for $ 2.99 million with Corcoran’s Heather McMaster, the cinematic stunner is hitting the market after a real -life renewal story nearly as dramatic as the scenes that are expected.
From “Saturday Night Live” to “Boardwalk Empire” up to “Blue Bloods”, six -bedroom apartment has become a movement for location scouts looking for the old New York beauty in the middle of the City Hall.
“Ditmas Park is actually famous for the people who film here because the houses are big enough to make some locations in one place,” said the homeowner Dana Vance, who, along with her husband Frank Gauthier, owns – and strictly restored – the house since 1994.
Located in one of the most photo blocks of the neighborhood, the house boasts a facade decorated with stained fingers and glass pipes.
Only her veranda has won its screen time – Hugh Grant filmed a night scene for “rewriting”, opposite JK Simmons, Vance, 72, said: “I love Hugh Grant, but I didn’t meet him because they shot him in 2 o’clock in the morning … because I couldn’t stay awake.”
Built in 1910, the house stayed in Gauthier’s family for three generations, but fell disadvantaged when a relatively attractive attractive there for decades.
“He had no bullet, no heat, no air conditioning. Fifty windows in the house, 28 were demolished. The pigeons were living on the third floor,” Vance said. “There were 10,000 pounds of newspapers, branches, aluminum tubes, a piano, waste cans that collect rainwater. It was a complete disaster.”
When the relative, named Bill, passed away, the house was on the verge of demolition – up to vance, seeing potential through the ruins, persuading Gauthier not to sell it.
“I said,” Oh, I think we’ll fix this house. I think there are great bones, “she said.” And he thought I was completely crazy. And to tell you the truth, I was, because I didn’t know what work was before me. “
What followed was a bowel renovation fed with maximum credit cards, a single affordable contractor and the grease of the couple’s elbow itself.
“We probably pulled over 500 bags of waste,” Vance said. “It was a love of love and I see that house as if it were a part of me … every piece of wood, every pillar, [the] WANSCING. “
Today, the result is a mixture of restored craftsmanship and functional luxury.
Inside, the house is flooded with natural light that exaggerates the windows-including a stained glass panel in the main landing of the stairs. Original mahogany doors, intrigue wood works and ordered oak floors with mahogany inlays run across.
The gracious living room, anchored by one of the two fires of wood combustion, opens into an official dining room wrapped in good quality paper and is crowned by a state chandelier. The updated dining cuisine oversees one of the largest private yards in the circle.
Up, the main suite boasts a breast window, a fireplace and even a marble sink built into his adjacent room-a return of the model’s turning model.
“Lovely,” Vance said. “Goted in the bedrooms and beautiful mahogany doors, the broom closes and the linen closes you don’t see in a regular home.”
Still, it is the special character of the home and the space space that has made it a favorite for film production crews and TVs, which can move through its three widespread floors and external areas with ease.
“There was a location scout that came from one day, maybe about 18 years ago … They take pictures, go to some houses, then bring back a team of 10 people to discover it again,” Vance said.
“We have one of the largest yards in the Ditmas Park, and that served us. And we have a large porch of wrapping, so those small things are interesting for filmmakers.”
Since then the house has also played hosts in products ranging from CBS dramas like “The Equalizer”.
But perhaps the most popular appearance came the courtesy of a 2014 Virus Snl Skeet, Back Home Ballers, which has gained more than 14 million views over the years.
“I met all the girls from ‘Saturday Night Live’ and Cameron Diaz,” Vance said. “They turned our living room into a discharge … Their green room was our bedroom. I took pictures with all of them. It was really great.”
Although the couple often stays at home during the shoots, they make the way to the crew when necessary.
“Sometimes the crew is so big that I just go to the third floor … and then we hear them go,” cut “, and then we can go down and catch a snack and go back up,” Vance said.
Looking at their home on screen remains a hurry.
“Many of the location scouts or advertising will call and tell me when it will be broadcast. And I’m so excited to see or the front of my house … or the living room, and the family will call and say,” Is your home “The Equalar?”
But after 30 years of loving and on screen, the couple has decided that it is time for a new act.
“We’re old. We’re old now and it’s time to go on,” Vance said. “It”’d 3,400 square meters, just the interior – not counting the attic and base … when you are young, it’s very easy. Still still easy for us now, but I can see myself beating and puffing every time at a time.”
Coupleifti – Both actors, now retired – plan to relocate overseas.
“Frank and I will always be New Yorkers. We love New York with all our hearts. But we’ve done New York,” she said. “We’re looking for a new adventure.”
While preparing to say goodbye, Vance admits it is an emotional division.
“I’ve talked home all this time, letting the house know how much I loved it so much … I hug the stairs or hug something and just say,” Thank you. Thank you. Thank you very much. “”
A visiting contractor may have said best. “He told me,” you will find out that after starting to work in a home like this, he will not allow you to work on it. Will resist you until he knows that you have his best interests in the heart. “And it’s true,” Vance said.
This character also – the kind that cannot be fabricated in a sound scene – has kept the filmmakers return, and can now amaze a new buyer.
As Vance said, “If they appreciate it half as much as we do, then I will be satisfied.”
