The main data violation exposes 86 million AT&T client records, fueling the fear of identity theft: SSN among the details violated by hackers

AT&T has experienced a massive personal data break, so if you are one of the more than 100 million people using the company, you will want to be in guard.

According to a new report by Hack Read, more than 86 million customers have been affected with leaked details ranging from full names to birth dates, phone numbers, email addresses and physical addresses.

Reported reported that more than 44 million social security numbers were also involved in data flow.

While each of these data groups presents risks of their own intimacy, together they can create complete identity profiles that can be used for fraud or identity theft.

The stolen data is said to have been fully deciphered and first posted on a Russian cyber crime forum on May 15 before being re-loaded on the same forum on June 3.

Hackers are reported to have entered the data given that it lacked multi-factor certificate, and this leak seems to be associated with an original hack from the Shinyhunters group in April 2024.

“It is not uncommon for criminals online to re-recover data previously discovered for financial benefits,” AT&T spokesman for Hack read in a state.

“We just learned about the claims that AT&T data is being made available for sale in dark online forums, and we are conducting a full investigation.”

The original seller of the exposed data claimed that this leak is “initially one of the databases of snow violation” – but according to Hack’s readings analysis, there are about 16 million more records in this break than the previous one.

AT&T also acknowledged security researchers that this violation was related to the original 2024 violation.

“After analyzing by our internal teams as well as external data consultants, we are confident that these are retained data released earlier on The Dark Web in March 2024,” the company said in one state.

“The affected clients were notified at the time. We have announced the implementation of the law on this latest development.”

If you are an AT&T customer, it is possible that your personal and private information may be part of the new flow. Although your data was discovered in this hack, it is likely because it was already unprotected in the violation of August 2024 national public data, which exposed “three decades of social security in the black market”.

To check if your information was revealed in that violation, you can check through the Pentateter, an online security firm, going to NPD.Pentteter.com and entering your information, which will allow you to see a list of your vacation.

Security experts are also asking customers to keep a look at their credit reports.
