Meta “nudged” a great technology prominent to help Mark Zuckerberg Curry social media giant with powerful Republicans before his historic antitrust trial as he sees to avoid a split, posting has learned.
The Federal Commission of Trade has accused Zuckerberg of using a “buy or bury” strategy to defend a monopoly and is in the midst of a historic offer in the Federal Court to force meta to sell Instagram and WhatsApp. Zuckerberg was the first witness called to take the stay last month.
In early April, just like the FTC trial was set to begin, a Meta official called the media research center with a right-wing influential guard that a reputation has been developed to call for censorship of great technology and political prejudice, numerous sources with KNOW The Post.
During the telephone call with MRC executive Dan Schneider, Meta’s official mentioned the future issue of the FTC and demanded Zuckerberg’s latest movement to eliminate its fact control unit, to which the alleged censorship was widely criticized by the Republicans, in favor of a milder policy of “community notes”.
When it was reached by the post, Schneider confirmed that the call had happened. Schneider said he interpreted stretching as meta “making me do something”, such as amplification of new Meta policy, to save favor with conservatives.
“On the eve of this judgment that can have major consequences for Meta, [the company official] He was throwing a ‘Mary’s hail’ crossing to see if one of his main critics would get a cover for them in a way, “Schneider said.
“It is not correct to say that this [the official] He asked me to do something, “Schneider said.” I think it is clearly correct that they hoped I would do something. “
During the call, official Meta suggested that FTC could provide a more influential “not in court, but with something” agreement – in a noticeable reference to a solution, Schneider said.
Meta refused to comment.
The phone call is the last sign of a constant lobbying Blitz by Zuckerberg and other meta officials targeting key Republicans, including President Trump himself.
“Time from Meta shows how desperate they were to avoid a trial,” a DC source told direct knowledge with the company’s lobbying efforts for The Post. “It takes balls to reject a Nude of them too – they can sink all your traffic.”
MRC has published several analyzes and studies that detail the censorship claimed by Google, Meta and other large technology firms – including an April 2024 report titled “39 times Facebook intervened in the US elections since 2008.”
In a December report, the MRC identified the alleged printing of information about killing President Trump’s attention last July by Meta, Google and Amazon as the worst incident of the year.
“[Meta] We were trying to make us brides and we didn’t get the bait. We didn’t like it, “Schneider said.” While we appreciate public statements and what seems to be steps in the right direction, this is just the minimum naked. “
“Meta must make the return to all the media they harm, that they were economically, illegally damaged, and they must strengthen these steps to support the rights of free speech,” Schneider added.
At the end of March, MRC posted a blog post, mentioning that it had seen “a considerable incentive of traffic” after Meta changed its fact -control policy, but asked if
Meta was one of some major technology companies that sponsored the White House Easter Eggs Rolle on April 21.
Meta Public Policy Team – led by GOP Joel Kaplan’s tall Insider – has more attention to connect with conservative influencers as it seems to provide more Republican support.
Last week, conservative activist Robby Starbuck – who sued Meta for defamation after his chatbot allegedly claimed that he participated on 6 January Capitol Riot – shared a last DM in which Meta Henry Rodgers, a Republican, asked him to “amplify” the revised community program.
After Starbuck’s lawsuit appeared in public, Kaplan took the rare step to issue a public apology, accepting in a X thereafter, the chatbot answers were “unacceptable”.
“Meta has been running around the DC desperately trying to put favorable options on conservative exits,” the DC source added. “They do not understand that Republicans couldn’t care less about their problems.”
Zuckerberg has personally visited the White House at least three times and even bought a $ 23 million residence in Washington, DC to be closer to the administration.
Last month, Wall Street Journal reported that Zuckerberg spoke directly with FTC President Andrew Ferguson in an attempt to resolve the issue. However, the billionaire initially offered only $ 450 million – a $ 30 billion share that FTC had asked.
Zuckerberg eventually increased his bid by $ 1 billion, but Ferguson reported that he would choose nothing less than $ 18 billion and a decree that Meta prohibits from anti -incompeting practices.
