Owners of the 101-year-old hotel Roosevelt, often made as New York City’s “New Ellis Island” have a new redevelopment offer.
Shahan Khan’s Burkhan investment and its partners want to build a tower on the parcel approximately 42,000 square meters, Bloomberg reported. The offer would allow the current owner – PIA HOLDING CO. Holding Co. (Pakistan International Airlines) – maintain a 50% shares in the joint enterprise.
Burkhan’s representative quoted by Bloomberg called the proposal “Best Agreement” for PIA, as it may depend on its wealth for decades and reap new rewards.
The joint venture proposed by Khan and his partners would build a new tower of up to 1.3 million square meters, in part through the acquisition of air rights, Bloomberg reported. This square view would put the possible tower at the same level, smart in space, as 55 Hudson or Tower Central Park. The enterprise will sign a 99-year-old land rent and would have the opportunity to last another 99 years.
The previous few years have seen the Rukevelt hotel with 1,025 evolve from a closed relic to a large receiving center for the arrival migrants. Developers begin to dive into the site earlier this year when the city announced its $ 220 million rental with the hotel.
Roosevelt closed its doors in October 2020 amid the fall of tourism caused by the Pandemia. The Midtown Hotel reopened in May 2023, this time as a shelter of migrants and receiving center.
President Eric Adams announced the closure of the shelter in February, citing a decrease in precipitus in the number of asylum seekers entering the city’s care. More than 173,000 individuals register for services in Roosevelt between May 2023 and February this year, by city.
Adams called the closing of the shelter a “historic moment” for the city.
The bid of joint ventures has not yet received an official response, but Bloomberg reported that the Pakistan Cabinet Committee to privatize is expected to consider the offer at its next meeting.
Pia’s adviser, JLL, was unable to reach comment.
How Burkhan can use the tower is still unknown, but it would calculate the almost finished seat of JP Morgan Chase and a SL Green vanderbil as neighbors in the office -filled corridor.
