Elon Musk’s Tesla is calling on Canadian customers to buy cars with pre-directional tariffs “while supplies last” while moving to raise prices in response to President Trump’s trade war.
The website of the electric car giant in Canada displayed a flag message on Monday which said “explore the inventory procured pre-Tarifa while the latest supplies”. Advertising first appeared to Tesla customers over the weekend.
President Trump’s 25% tariffs on imported cars and car parts remain in force even after his administration implemented a 90-day pause for most fees earlier this month. Canada retaliated with its 25% fee for US car imports.
A Tesla sales representative at a Toronto area trader said that the pre-taxing prices apply to all models for vehicles that had already been imported into Canada before tariff increases came into force.
Once those cars are sold, customers will have to pay higher prices – up to 22% for some models, according to data compiled by the Tesla drive blog.
