This new ride is making waves.
Disney World visitors are complaining that the park’s new attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, is leaving them seriously stuffed.
The recently opened ride, inspired by “The Princess and the Frog,” has replaced Splash Mountain, which was closed because it was based on “Song of the South,” a 1946 film that featured “racist stereotypes about African Americans and plantation life”.
The theme park didn’t want to leave park-goers dry (quite literally), so they created yet another water-themed ride — but Disney lovers are underwhelmed and unhappy.
Some thrill-seekers say the attraction, which opened June 28 in Florida’s Walt Disney World and will open Nov. 15 in California’s Disneyland, doesn’t come with a warning about how wet it gets.
“We bought crazy ponchos before the trip, but it didn’t really help. Our shoes and bodies were wet. We would only do this again if we had a full change of clothes or could escape back to a hotel room on the property. It’s not fun for us,” complained one.
“If we wanted to go to a water park, we would have, but this one is in the middle of Disneyland,” they fumed further.
They also explained why people were leaving the flooded attraction.
“The cars have been re-weighed [after replacing Splash Mountain] and fixed the water so that there are inches of water in the bottom of the car when you get in and you’re soaking wet,” they said.
While the ride opened at Disney World in June, Disneyland’s version doesn’t open until Friday, but some park employees and pass holders have already tried it — and they claim it’s even wetter than the one in Florida.
“The experience in California is wetter than ever when it ran like Splash Mountain with some logs that seemed to just flood with water after the big splash to the point that your shoes can be completely submerged for a while,” wrote one reviewer . , according to Screamscape.
However, others are upset about the exciting attraction.
“I absolutely love Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland,” said one rider at X. “It’s so much fun and I’ve been lucky enough to ride it 11 times now and look forward to many more.”
Park officials recommend riders rent lockers to prevent their personal belongings from getting wet.
Some thrill seekers also advise buying a poncho, waterproof phone case or towel at the nearby gift shop to stay as dry as possible.
